Herbert Rodriguez, 94, of Bellerose, NY, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2026. Born and raised in New York City, he married the love of his life, Mercedes, after proposing on their first date. She said he was crazy but married him 18 months later, on February 27, 1954. He was a devoted husband and together they raised three children. He loved to travel, was all about fitness and visiting family.

Herbert was the first of his siblings to get a college education, graduating from NYU with a degree in accounting. Forensic accounting was his favorite, so much so that he continued working part-time, past his retirement, into his eighties. He was blessed with a strong work ethic and believed in giving back to the community. He volunteered in many community activities including the local YMCA, in the Coast Guard Auxiliary, neighborhood watch patrols, and more. He was an avid athlete, running NYC marathons and leading the adult fitness classes at the local YMCA for years. But ultimately, his first love was sailing, which he passed on to his son, son-in-law and grandchildren.

The family will be having a private gathering to honor Herbert’s’ life; no public service will be held.
