Obituary

Judith Henriette Hilland Sorensen passed away peacefully on September 6, 2024 in Farmingdale, NY.  She was born July 3, 1929 in Alverstraumen, Norway. She was the daughter of Ingolf Johannes Hilland and Julie Henriette Hilland (née Adserø).

Judith immigrated to the United States in 1947, settling in Brooklyn, NY, and became a naturalized American citizen in 1953. She married Omar Sorensen in 1954.  They would move to Farmingdale, New York where she and Omar raised their family.

Judith lived an eventful life.  She grew up during the Nazi occupation of Norway, came to New York City as a young woman, and worked for a time as a hairdresser in the salon of artist Paul Mommer. She cared deeply about her family and took great pride in the accomplishments of her grandchildren.

Judith is survived by her son Roy A. Sorensen (Julia Driver), her daughter Lori Coulaz, and by five grandchildren:  Stephen Coulaz, Kristen Giretti (née Coulaz), Maxwell Sorensen, Zachary Sorensen, and Brittany Sorensen.  She is also survived by her twin sister, Inger Nielsen.  She is pre-deceased by two sisters, Else Jensen and Aud Moran, and her son Eric Sorensen. Her husband, Omar Sorensen, died in 1992.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday October 5, 2024 at Pinelawn Memorial Park and Arboretum in Farmingdale, NY. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations in her name be made to the My Good Days Charity (https://mygooddays.org/).
