In Memory of Julie DiMurro, September 2, 2026

It is with unbearable sorrow that we share the passing of Julie DiMurro on September 2, 2026, at the age of 68.

A Life of Grace, Generosity, and Love

Julie was a gifted artist blessed with inexplicable grace. She loved life deeply, but above all lived for others. Her generosity was remarkable; Julie donated her kidney to save the life of her father-in-law. After being diagnosed with Stage 4 glioblastoma, she courageously entered a clinical trial. The experimental trial drug, AZD, ended her life. Even in death Julie continued to give of herself: both of her corneas were donated, giving the precious gift of sight to two people.

Family and Loved Ones

Julie leaves behind the love of her life, her heartbroken husband of 30 years, Tony, who said, “It was the best 30 years of my life.” The two were often inseparable after meeting for the first time at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1991. Their marriage was a partnership, built on love, loyalty and laughter. She is also survived by her brother, Douglas; his wife, Mitzi; her mother-in-law, Patricia; her sisters-in-law, Maria and Madeline; her nieces and nephews, Lucia, Hilliary, Anthony, and Harrison; and their dear, loyal friend, Linda Cool. Julie was predeceased by her father, Donald Melton; her mother, Carol Bonder; and her father- in-law, Anthony. She is also deeply mourned by former fellow coworkers at The Metropolitan Museum of Art and at the several other places where she worked.

A Love of Family, Friends, Art, and Travel

Julie loved to travel, especially to Naples and London, and to spend time with her family. She especially cherished Sunday afternoons at her mother-in-law’s home in Hoboken, New Jersey, where they ate Sunday dinner and spent the rest of the afternoon puzzling and playing games around the table. She was all about family and friends.

A Lasting Legacy

Julie was a devoted wife, a cherished sister, a loving and selfless daughter-in-law, a talented artist, and a fiercely loyal friend. She gave the gifts of life and sight to others. She was loved by everyone who met her. The mark she left on this world is indelible and she will never be forgotten.
