In Loving Memory of Melissa Lynn Swezey
Melissa Lynn Swezey passed away on September 10, 2026, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. She was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, fiancée, and friend who brought her own special light into the lives of the people who knew and loved her. She fought a difficult battle with courage and strength, but throughout it all, she remained Melissa—someone who loved deeply, cared fiercely, and treasured the people and animals who meant the most to her.
Melissa shared her life and her heart with her fiancé, Mike Hrostowski. Together, they created a life filled with love, companionship, and, most importantly, their cats, who were not simply pets to them—they were their children. She loved them dearly, and the love she had for her little family was a beautiful reflection of the kind of heart she had.
Melissa was the daughter of Vicki Swezey and the late Donald Swezey. She is also preceded in death by her stepfather, Jim Bliss, her sister, Christine “Dee” Swezey as well as her grandparents, Dureen and Benjamin Springhorn and Shirley and Leon Swezey.
Melissa leaves behind her mother, Vicki, her siblings and their families: Kelly Ashby and her husband, Tom, and their children, Scotty, Derek, and Thomas; Doug Swezey and his wife, Kathryn, and their children, Connor and Shannon; and Erin Schwartz and her husband, Rob, and their children, Renee and Bryson.
To her nieces and nephews, Melissa was more than an aunt. She was a part of their lives, their memories, and their family story—a person whose place in their hearts will never be replaced. Losing Melissa leaves an emptiness that words cannot truly describe. Losing a sister means losing someone who has been part of your story from the very beginning—someone who shares your childhood memories, your family history, your laughter, and your tears. For her siblings, the pain of saying goodbye is made even harder by the fact that Melissa was already carrying the heartbreak of losing her own sister, Dee. Our family has experienced more loss than we ever imagined we would, but the love that binds us together remains.
We will remember Melissa for the life she lived, the love she gave, the people and animals she cared for, and the memories she left behind. Her fight was incredibly hard, but she never stopped being loved. She was surrounded by family who loved her, and she will continue to be loved long after her passing.
Melissa, you fought so hard. We wish we could have had more time with you, more conversations, more laughs, and more ordinary days together. But we are grateful for every moment we were given. You will forever be our daughter, our sister, our aunt, our family, and a piece of our hearts.
Rest peacefully, Melissa.
