Philip I.
Cook
Jul 13, 1947 — Aug 24, 2026
Queens Village, NY
Phil Cook, 79, of Queens Village, NY, passed peacefully on August 24, 2026.
Phil was a creative and talented engineer. From a young age, he developed an interest in robotics, circuits, chemistry, photography, carpentry, and appliance repair, and found joy in sharing his talents with friends and family. During his 45-year career at Mount Sinai Hospital, Phil had an outsized impact. He fixed critical research equipment, designed novel devices, published scientific papers, and earned recognition from NASA for contributions to biomedical research. Yet his passion for engineering extended even further. Using his home machine shop, Phil brought to life the toys he designed with his kids and grandkids. He was also always on the lookout for things his friends and relatives needed repaired, gaining a reputation as the person who could fix anything. With his loving partner Sara, Phil dreamed up, built, and tested many creative new inventions, even auditioning for Shark Tank together.
Phil cared deeply for others, maintaining close relationships with friends, family, and colleagues for decades. He took a genuine interest in people, always remembering the events in their lives and sharing his time, expertise, and support generously. He is survived by his partner Sara Blumenstein, children Jonathan (Statia) and Dina, grandsons Nolan and Ezra, brothers David (Patricia) and Joel (Denise), and sister Honey (Brian) Lindgren.
