Aunt Betty was a sweet and gentle person with a good sense of humor. She was born on Staten Island on June 10, 1925. On September 14, 2021, in a nursing home in Queens, she didn’t wake up. She attended a few video meetings with us recently. On one, she told us a story about walking with her brother Mack from Rossville to the Pleasant Plains train station, getting on the train, and telling the conductor they were going to their father’s place of work to visit him. She laughed at her own story. She told us she was the top student in History in her Tottenville High School class, in fact the best of several years. She became a career women before that was common, and worked as an executive secretary for a law office in Manhattan. She lived for a few years that we know of at 111 Third Avenue, where we all visited once. We were impressed by the new tall (almost 20 stories) white building with elevators and air conditioning. She often visited our house when we were kids, and always seemed to have just returned from some exotic trip south of the US border. She sent vacation postcards from Virginia to her mother, reporting on the elegant places she visited. Her recent letters to me contained these words that she might have meant for all of you: My best wishes and love to all of you. That’s about all for now, Love, Aunt Betty As we close the book on the life of our dear Aunt Betty, We know that we will have fond memories of her, We acknowledge her long productive life, her good sense of humor, and her courage in recent years. We are thankful for the opportunity to get to know her. In our own hearts, we ask God to take the soul of Aunt Betty, and to give her Eternal peace and rest.
