Mrs. Joan Patricia Skulsky, 82, of Hauppauge, NY was called home to be with the Lord on May 21, 2024. Joan was a loving daughter, sister, and mother to James Zeoli (Christine) and John Zeoli, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Joan was born in the Bronx, NY and moved to Syosset, Long Island with her family as a teenager.
Joan was known for her beautiful smile and a warm welcome to all she met. She was a loving mom who created a childhood for her sons that was filled with wonderful family memories. Joan loved her sons more than anything and was happiest when they were spending time together.
Joan had a deep Catholic faith and her favorite family time of year was Christmas. Current and future generations will think of Nana at Christmas time through her passed-down traditions, handcrafted ornaments, and keepsakes she made. Joan always looked forward to holiday goodies like peppermint patties and chocolate chip cookies.
Joan was a very active and social person who preferred to spend time with people rather than be alone. She enjoyed going to the movies and playing games, especially her weekly Mah Jong game with friends, hosting at each other’s homes, serving snacks, and enjoying each other’s company. Joan also enjoyed going to the horse track, Jai Lai, or the casinos to bet a few dollars and spend time with her brother Rob.
Joan was a creative and talented artist who enjoyed painting, creating crafts and keepsakes. She enjoyed having a retail store for several years and displayed her creations at many a craft show.
Joan loved a spontaneous ride in the car, grabbing a coffee and a boston cream donut or sandwich to enjoy near the water. Her favorite water spot was Northport Harbor where she and her sons spent many afternoons just sitting to people-watch and talk.
Joan’s love of family and her kind heart are her enduring legacy to family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations in Joan’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association using this link http://act.alz.org/goto/Joan_Skulsky
