
Johnnie L. Jackson passed away June 17, 2025 at Mt. Sinai Hospital, NY NY.
Johnnie was born June 16, 1949 in Dillon, SC to the late Joseph and Rometa Jackson. Johnnie is survived by his daughter Angela Delene Jackson (NYC), sisters Linda Faye Jones (Randleman, NC), and Shirley Jean Skeen and Dale (Trinity, NC) In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Nettie Mae Greenwood.
Johnnie grew up in Thomasville, NC and graduated from Thomasville Senior High School . He was in the United States Army May 6, 1968 to December 22, 1970 completing three tours in Vietnam for which he received both Vietnam Services Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. He attended Davidson Community College and Memphis State for Engineering for which he had over 30 years service at Varco Pruden which included drafting, engineering then District Manager in Kentucky and NC. He retired from Gulf States Manufacturing as District Sales Manager in 2014.
Johnnie lived out his dream of retirement at the NC Coast at Oak Island NC. HIs hobbies were painting, traveling and listening to NC Beach Music. During his retirement he traveled the world with his daughter including a few of his favorites South Africa, Italy, France, Spain, Panama, and Alaska. Johnnie also focused on his skill of drawing and painting for which he became a true artist painting most notably for family and friends their furry family members. He celebrated his 76th birthday with his Daughter at the 39th Annual Carolina Beach Music Festival. Johnnie did not meet a stranger and will be missed from friends and family from all around the world.
Services will be held August 22, 2025 2pm. at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Montford Point Road, Jacksonville, NC 28541. There will be a Celebration of Life at VFW Oak Island on August 23, 2025 for friends and family. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Wounded Warrior Project at woundedwarriorproject.org
