Leonardo “Leo” Aquiles Cedeño, 64, of Flushing, NY, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2024, with his beloved wife Betty & his sister Carolina by his side, after a decades-long battle with Charcot-Mari-Tooth Disease.
Leo was born on March 16, 1960, in Puerto La Cruz, Anzoátegui, Venezuela. He moved to the United States in 1977, at the young age of 17, to live with his mother, Alicia and his second father, Raul. Coming to the states and becoming an American citizen was a great pride for him and helped mold the man he became. He was known for his passion for music (the Beatles and John Lennon primarily), photography, animals, soccer, especially FC Barcelona and Lionel Messi, and his dedication to his family and friends.
Leo’s career in music led him to work at MTV and EMI Records. Later in his career, he served as the elite concierge for a luxury building in NYC. His love for music extended beyond his work, as he was a talented musician who played various instruments and composed his own music. In the 1980s, Leo’s band, Different Shades, performed at many NYC clubs, including the iconic music club CBGB, a moment he cherished deeply.
Aside from music, Leo had a great love for animals. He adored his toy poodles Benji & Susie, that were his children, and his beloved cats Dotty and Harry.
Leo will be deeply missed by his loving spouse of 32 years, Betty Cedeño, his mother Alicia Molina, his sisters Deyarira Cedeño, Rosemarie Nowicki, Carolina Alexander, and her husband Ryan Alexander, Eumery Cedeño, his brother Guillermo Cedeño, and his nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, and friends.
Leo was predeceased by both of his beloved fathers, Luis Cedeño and Raul Molina, and his grandparents from both sides of the family.
Family and friends are invited Friday, May 17th to attend his funeral mass at Our Lady of the Valley, 510 Valley Street, Orange, NJ, followed by the committal blessing and interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 225 Ridgedale Avenue, East Hanover, NJ.
