Marilyn June Hubner, 74, of Mastic Beach, NY, passed away October 16, 2023 at Surge Rehabilitation and Nursing in Middle Island, NY. She was born June 5, 1949 in Freeport, NY to Helen May Burkhardt (Thiele) and Walter Frank Hubner. She was a graduate of East Meadow High School and attended Utica College in Utica, NY. After college, Marilyn fell in love with Boston, MA and made it her home until the early 1980’s. She then returned to Long Island to be closer to her family and took a position with PepsiCo. in Garden City, NY. After a few years there, she moved to the Medical Billing Dept. of Beth Israel Hospital in New York City, where she worked until her retirement in 2013. Marilyn was a longtime member of the Long Island Daylily Society and Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. She was an avid fan and had a boundless knowledge of all things art, music, film and flowers. Ask her the history or location of a painting in the Met, the name of an actor from an old movie or something about any genre of music from 100 years ago to the present (with a particular expertise in British Invasion Rock) and she would nail it.
She was preceded in death by her Parents, Stepfather Alvin T. Thiele, Stepmother Barbara W. Hubner and numerous aunts and uncles. She is survived by two half-sisters, Linda Thiele-Thompson of Mastic Beach, NY and Susannah Hubner-Varela (Sebastian) of Westfield, NJ a half-brother, William Thiele (Patricia) of Albrightsville, PA and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Marilyn was a smart, loving and loyal daughter, sister, aunt, and friend who will be dearly missed. At her request there will be no funeral services. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in her honor.
