To the family of Olga Blumfeld: It was a pleasure to know and interact with Olga Blumenfeld at Einstein. She was a person who brightened your day. Although we did not collaborate, she was always an inspiration. Olga projected warmth, kindness, and genuine sincerity, and you could always rely on her to lend an ear. She was a role model for younger and senior faculty, given her brilliant scientific insight and accomplishments. I recall how proud she was to have been nominated to the National Academy of Sciences but accepting the disappointing news that she had not gained membership. There is no doubt that she should have been admitted; but even in science, there is politics. She was unique, wonderful, and will be missed.

To Olga's son Phillip and his family: I talked to Olga a few weeks ago after Serge died. She was so, so sad and so not looking forward to the next stage of her life. I send condolences for your loss but am I feel that dying in New York opposite the Albert Einstein College of Medicine to which she devoted her scientific life was a good way to leave this world. Olga "joined" my lab after she closed her own and was much beloved by many students and postdocs. Her spirit is alive at Einstein and I will remember her contributions when I give a talk on Women Scientists at Einstein to the Einstein Historical Society in early February. My best wishes and with fond memories of Olga (and Serge). Pamela Stanley
