Robert J. Candalino, 78, passed away on June 24th, 2023.
Robert was born on June 24th, 1945 to Alfred and Adele in Astoria, NY. After graduating from Bayside High School in 1963, he went on to study History and Sociology at Hofstra University.
After graduation, he entered service in the US Army as a Second Lieutenant. Robert served from 1967 to 1970 (including a year in Vietnam) after which he was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain earning two Bronze Stars with Oak Leaf Clusters. Besides his family, this service would be his biggest source of pride.
In 1971, he met Kathryn (Cassie), and they wed in 1972, going on to have two children, James and Stacy.
Throughout his life Robert kept very busy. He went back to school and earned a master’s degree from Teachers College, Columbia University. He taught high school in Southampton and New Jersey. He worked as a programmer for the U.S. Trust Company, and, finally, he owned his own financial planning practice for twenty years.
After retiring, Bob spent his time on wood working, gardening, visiting with family and friends as far back as childhood, rooting for his beloved NY Rangers, and selling tickets for both the New York Mets and Yankees (which he had been doing for over 50 years!!). Robert will be remembered most for his outgoing personality, willingness to help anyone in need at the drop of a hat, and his avid curiosity.
Robert is survived by his wife Cassie, his children, James and wife Leigh, and Stacy, as well as his brother Tom and wife Roberta, and much loved nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Alfred, sister, Grace, and mother, Adele.
